Though there are no land borders with the UK, it is possible to get to the country via road using the Channel Tunnel which runs under the English Channel, connecting Kent in England with Calais in France. Services are regular, reliable and comfortable, as well as offering a somewhat unique experience. Land borders between England/Scotland/Wales are all freely crossable with no border stations or passport controls necessary. Crossings between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland are similarly uneventful, generally. National driver’s licences are valid for a year after arrival, and third party insurance is mandatory.
